Salem, Massachusetts is famous for the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, where more than 200 people were accused of witchcraft and sadly many were hanged, with one also being crushed to death. Today a memorial has been placed within the city of Salem for the public to view and pay their respects.

The history of the town has placed it firmly on the map and because of it's history, it has become a huge tourist destination, especially during the month of October.

Hocus Pocus is set within Salem and the original film also features multiple locations from around the city, along with it's neighbouring town, Marblehead. These locations can all be visited by the public and with the popularity of the film only increasing year after year, so has the amount of people flocking to Salem to view the famous sites.

The Town Hall featured in Hocus Pocus can be found at 32 Derby Square, right in the heart of Salem. Although previously used as a real Town Hall, the building is now used as an art space.

The party which takes place at the Town Hall was actually filmed at the MacArthur Hotel and can be found at 607 S Park View St, Los Angeles.

Allison's House can be found at 318 Essex Street. In reality this building is not a house at all, but a museum. The Ropes Mansion is open to the public and also has a large garden at the back of the building that the public can explore. The Salem Witch House is only a few buildings away too!

The interior scenes were filmed in Los Angeles at the Crank House, which is located at 2186 Crary St, Altadena. This same location was used for Scream 2.

The building used as the exterior of Jacob Bailey High School can be found right next to the Salem Common off Washington Street. This building previously was a real school, which was closed in 1992.

Interior shots of the school were filmed at East Whittier High School, 14421 Whittier Blvd, CA.

Pioneer Village is located at 98 West Avenue in Salem. Pioneer Village is the first living museum in America, which was built in the 1930's to recreate what Salem would have been like in the 1700's. This museum is featured during the opening scenes of Hocus Pocus and acts as old Salem.

Moving away from Salem and New England in general, additional locations for the film can be found in Los Angeles.
The Devil's "Master" home can be found 6536 Friends Avenue and is still a real home today. Home's on the same street were also used to film the outside trick or treating scenes.
The fountain and location of when the kids are celebrating the Sanderson Sisters demise was actually filmed on the Warner Brothers Ranch. This location also appears in the opening of Friends.
