Although it didn't do as well as Disney had hoped at the box office, Disney actually created a large amount of promotional merchandise for the original film. The press received press packs, slides, image stills and more. Theatres were sent lobby cards and during it's physical release, video stores were sent standees and screeners.
Below is a large selection of promotional items that were used to promote the film around the world.

The classic image of the Sanderson Sisters flying over the moon was created by Drew Struzan but did you know there's actually two variations of the poster? The original features Binx holding onto Mary and the variant designs has Binx poking his head out of the vacuum. The Sanderson Sisters also appear in a slightly different pose, with the latter showing Winifred's bolts coming out of her hands.
The press and theatres were sent Lobby Cards to use to promote the film. Below is a selection of Lobby Card that were sent out to the USA, UK and France.
The 90's was a very different time for print media, instead of sending out a quick email or using things like dropbox, the press would be sent slides, these could then be used to reproduce images for magazines and newspapers. There are actually a large amount of press slides that are available for the original film.
Possibly one of the rarest pieces of Hocus Pocus merchandise is the original soundtrack CD. This soundtrack was only given out to the press and only a limited amount of them were produced. It wasn't until 2013 that the soundtrack would receive a larger, public release (although this has now been discontinued). This particular soundtrack contains 19 tracks. Sadly there are a large amount of bootleg versions of this soundtrack for sale online.
Press Kits were sent out to the press to promote the release of the film. There are a handful of different kits available, with the most exciting being the French press kit which was designed to look like the Spell Book. One page info sheets were also sent out and the USA press kit not only came in a wallet, but also included press slides too.
Below is a selection of magazines and newspaper clipping featuring Hocus Pocus. Some of these are also for the physical release of the movie in 1994.
Press stills were sent out to multiple media outlets. These still are all in black and white and were similar to photograph. Information was printed onto the back of some of the stills for the press to use when promoting the release.
Promotional VHS tapes were sent out to the press and also video stores. These promo VHS tapes would be played in stores promoting the films physical release on VHS.
Only a very small amount of promotional merchandise was created for the film, the first being a theatrical standee that was placed in theatres. The second standee was used in video stores and came as a three-sided piece. One side featured a 3D image of Hocus Pocus and the other two were advertisements for Guilty as Sin and Life with Mikey.
A promotional witch hat was given out to promote the film, along with a pin badge and postcard.

Over the years the official Hocus Pocus Facebook page has continued to promote the film. Below is a handful of unique images that were shared on social media to either mark the films anniversary or to celebrate Halloween.
In 2013 a new official poster was released exclusively at the D23 20th Anniversary event, this poster was later made available online. New posters were also released to celebrate it's return to theatres for it's 30th anniversary in 2023 too.
Many of the original Trailers and TV Spots released for Hocus Pocus feature deleted scenes that have still not been released.
