Hocus Pocus 2 was released on September 30th 2022, 29 years after the original films release. It became an immediate success and showcased how popular the fanbase for the original film had grown over nearly three decades. The sequel was nominated for three Emmy's and even broke both Disney+ and Nielsen streaming records within the first week of its release.

Hocus Pocus 2 takes place in modern day Salem, 29 years after the incidents in 1993. The sequel follows Becca and Izzy, two aspiring young witches who unknowingly summon the Sanderson Sisters back to Salem and must now do all they can to try and stop the three witches before they not only steal the lives of all the children, but also take revenge on Salem and it's mayor. Original cast members Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker all returned as the Sanderson Sisters and Doug Jones also reprised his role as Billy Butcherson.

The below descriptions of each Sanderson Sister are taken from the 1992 shooting script, so they are as accurate as they possibly can be.

Winifred Sanderson is the eldest and by far the most powerful. Once beautiful, her beauty has been corrupted by evil, but she is still obsessively vain, and hates children for their youth and prettiness (in fact she can't say the words child or children without slightly gagging on them).

Winifred has a serious anger problem; when she gets really furious it produces electrical energy which she then discharges on the objects of her wrath.
She has immense skill with potions and spells, especially when she uses her beloved spell book. Her sisters drive her absolutely nuts.

Mary Sanderson is the middle sister, she loves children. They're her favourite dish; she knows a million recipes. Mary's sense of smell is incredibly keen; she can follow the scent of a child like a bloodhound.

Mary is a sneak, who misses no opportunity to suck up to her powerful sister Winnie, or to pick on her little sister Sarah.

Sarah Sanderson is the youngest, she's also the strange one. Wild and wood-nymphy in appearance, she is the seventeenth century evil flower child, who loves "to play".

Her sisters use her to lure their victims into their clutches. Sarah likes to torture things: small animals, children, bugs, you name it. Any suggestion of cruelty (to somebody else) sends her into a fit of idiotic laughter, while any fear for herself sends her into a screaming fit. She's a mess.

Becca is the main protagonist in Hocus Pocus 2. On her 16th birthday she is given a candle by Gilbert, only to discover that upon lighting it, the Sanderson Sisters return to Salem.

Izzy is Becca's best friend and classmate. She is with Becca when the candle is lit and together they try and stop the Sanderson Sisters.

Billy Butcherson is rumoured to be an ex lover of Winifred, however it turns out to have only been one kiss that they shared.

He has been lying awake in his grave for 29 years and is dug up by Gilbert, due to Gilbert needing his help trying to stop the Sanderson Sisters.

Gilbert or "Gilbert The Great" now owns the Sanderson Sisters Cottage, which he has turned into a magic shop.

He happily states he's the Sanderson Sisters biggest fan and tricks Becca into bring them back to Salem, by giving her his very own Black Flame Candle... how he made it though... is a mystery.

Young Winifred Sanderson is as fiery as her adult self. She lives in Salem with her two sisters and isn't liked much by the townspeople.

Young Sarah Sanderson is as bubbly and playful as her adult self. Although I don't think she was too pleased with her favourite plate being broken.

Young Mary Sanderson lives with her sisters Sarah and Winifred in Salem. She's as loyal to them as a child as she is in her older years.

The Mother Witch is revealed to have given the Sanderson Sisters the spell book on Winifred's 16th birthday. She hates the way Salem is run and is a wise older witch.

Mayor Traske is a descendent of Reverend Traske, the same man who banished the Sanderson Sisters from Salem over 300 years ago. Although Mayor Traske seems to have a good heart, Reverend Traske is quite the opposite and it's Reverend Traske that makes the Sanderson Sisters want to seek their revenge.

Winifred's beloved book. Made from human skin, the book contains Winifred's most powerful spells, including how to make the Life Potion Elixir, how to turn people into cats and the Magica Maxica spell.

In the original film, we're told by Allison that the book was given to Winifred by the Devil, however in the sequel it's discovered that Winifred was given the book by the 'Mother Witch' on her 16th birthday.

The Black Flame Candle has a very different appearance in Hocus Pocus 2. Unlike the original candle, which features various art and symbols all around it, in Hocus Pocus 2 the candle is a oddly shaped lump of wax, which appears to be blue.

The candle was made by Gilbert and given to Becca to trick her into bringing the witches back.
