There are so many amazing fans when it comes to the Hocus Pocus fandom and Kimmy Blankenburg is no exception!

From seeing the film three times on opening day, to meeting the cast and crew multiple times and even being included in the official Oral History of Hocus Pocus book (by the wonderful Shannon Carlin).

Kimmy is one of the biggest fans i've ever come across and so it only felt right to find out even more about her love for the film, memories surrounding it and what she would like to see in the upcoming third film.

Can you remember when you first ever watched Hocus Pocus?

I sure can! One of my greatest memories! We were on a family vacation and had rented a cottage on the lake for the week. It was an extremely stormy/wet day therefore we went to the local movie theater.  It was July 16, 1993, opening day for Hocus Pocus!, (I was 10 years old) and my parents took me to see it! Well... I immediately fell in love with it and ended up seeing it 3 times back to back that day. And from that day on, I've been a die hard Hocus Pocus fanatic and collector ever since! :) Now that both of my parents have passed, this memory means more than ever before.

Who is your favourite Sanderson Sister and also your favourite non-Sanderson Sister and why?

Mary is my absolute fave. She's a hot damn mess and I adore her! :D I find her hilarious yet the one who keeps them a bit grounded and "focused" at times. She's soo great! Dani would be my favorite non-Sanderson sister. She's spicy and isn't afraid of anything. LOVE it!

You collect quite a lot of Hocus Pocus merchandise, do you have a particular favourite item?

I have a lot of pieces that I absolutely love and adore, however I have to say my custom-made spellbook that my dear friend made for me back in 2014 as a gift for my 10 year wedding anniversary is one of my most cherished items. It's made with actual latex and he did a custom drawing of the sisters in it. I also got it signed by many of the cast so it's close to my heart.

Is there a product you wish would be released?

Hmm.... That's a hard one. I would love to see action-figure-like figures of the whole cast done. I know there's been figures made but I'm thinking more of like the action-figure type ones. And of EVERYONE in the cast! That would be soo awesome. I would also love to see a Halloween Mask line done. That would be pretty neat!

You've been a fan for as long as you can remember, what would you say has been the best experience you've had around the films so far?

There have been quite a few notable memories that I cherish but I have to say one of my absolute favorites is when Kathy Najimy came to my home town (her husband is from here) and she hosted watching Hocus Pocus on the big screen at the Kodak Theatre!

My whole family went. My 2 little Nieces and I all dressed up as Mary and it was adorable. She first held a Meet and Greet where she was the absolute SWEETEST to my Nieces. She asked if she could speak to them privately and she told them they could be whatever they wanted in life and just seeing the magic in my Nieces eyes got me all emotional. We were then chosen as contestants for the Costume Contest! We got to walk the big stage and compete against many other amazing costumes... my Nieces were in awe!! Guess what... we WON!!! We couldn't believe it! Seeing the smiles on my Nieces faces was EVERYTHING! We all won signed Mary Funkos and the whole auditorium cheered for us with our family in the crowd. It was such a magical night!!
If you could play any character from Hocus Pocus and its sequel, who would you be?

Truthfully, I would've loved to even be an extra in the film just to be a part of it! HAHAHA :D But if I had to pick one I'd say.... Mary. She is just hilarious and funny. The only problem would be, I can't get the mouth right lol :D.

Favourite line from the films?

Winifred: "Damn that boy, he's tricked us again!".... I have LOVED this line for as long as I can remember... it's soo damn funny and the way she says it gets me every time! :D

How excited are you for Hocus Pocus 3?

I'm always excited to see what they are going to do next with Hocus Pocus. Never in my wildest dreams did 10 year old Kimmy think she'd ever see a Hocus Pocus 2 happen, let alone a 3rd one. I'll admit, I didn't love the 2nd but I did enjoy it and am always so thankful whenever something new Hocus Pocus is happening. The first will always be my fave. It has soo many wonderful memories attached to it.

What would you like to see happen in the third film?

I'd truly love to see Allison and Max married with kiddos and Dani of course as the Aunt and in some way resurrect the witches. It would just be a fun, full-circle moment for sure!
You work an awesome clothing company called Fright Rags, which has released multiple Hocus Pocus designs in the past, can you tell us a little bit about how these came about and can we expect to see any new releases in the future?

I have an incredible boss who knows my love, adoration, and obsession for Hocus Pocus... We had discussed some tee design ideas and he took a chance on releasing a Hocus Pocus design years ago and the response was incredible!! We have released quite a few since then and hopefully there will be more to come in the future! Our artists that brought these designs to life are absolutely incredible. I hope to maybe even get one of the designs tattooed on me someday! :)
Favourite Halloween candy?

Ohhhh this is a hard one... I'd have to say either Twix or Kit Kat... but then again that could change tomorrow cause I love chocolate and candy! :D

Favourite Halloween movie that isn't Hocus Pocus?

Halloween 1078 and The Worst Witch 1986.

When does spooky season start for you?

It truly never stops for me. My home is like a year round Halloween museum and it's on my mind 24/7, 365 days a year. It definitely amps up when things start appearing in stores around June/July.

One thing you like to do every Halloween?

We have many family traditions when it comes to Halloween. One of my favorites is our Family Pumpkin Carving Night. The memories with my family is everything to me. I also take each of my Nieces and Nephew to pick out their Halloween costumes every year and it's soo much fun!

If you could create a spell to go into Booook, what would it be called and what would it do?

Ohhhhh this is a hard one.... I'd love to be able to resurrect a loved one, even if just for one night. Hmmmm... I'd have to think on a name lol.

Fan Interview! An Interview With Super Fan Joe Richards

It's July! Which only means one thing.... Hocus Pocus is about to turn another year older and what better time to celebrate, than with other fans of the film!

This month kicks off a brand new feature for the museum and that's new interviews with you, the fans!

These new interviews will be uploaded as often as possible and it'll be a great way to discover other fans of the film, learn new things and share a mutual love for this now iconic franchise.

To start things off today, the Museum is sharing a fun interview with super fan Joe Richards!

Joe has been collecting Hocus Pocus merchandise for many years now and even owns one of the rarest pieces of promotional merchandise that was ever released. His collection is filled with all kinds of tricks and treats, including promotional materials, limited edition pieces and more, to say he's a fan of the film is a understatement and was an absolute pleasure to learn more about his love for the film.

Can you remember when you first ever watched Hocus Pocus?

I can't specifically recall the first time I watched Hocus Pocus, but it must have been sometime in early 1994 after it was released on VHS. I remember my parents renting it from Blockbuster for me one weekend, and watching it several times. They had to  extend the rental because I didn't want to take it back! After that, they bought a copy of the VHS for me, and my grandparents bought a copy to keep at their house for when I was over there.

Who is your favourite Sanderson Sister and also your favourite non-Sanderson Sister and why?

Favorite Sanderson Sister is such a tough question, I love them all! But if I had to choose, Sarah. As a kid, she reminded me of all of the pop stars that I loved. The wavy blonde hair, the bubbly personality, plus she had my favorite costume! My favorite non Sanderson sister would be Allison. I love her house and the Halloween party her family threw. To this day, I'd still love to replicate that! Beyond that, she's grounded, intelligent, and open minded. I feel like I can relate to her.

You have quite a large collection of Hocus Pocus merchandise, do you have a favourite item?

Favorite item in my collection. Hmmm.... I have a really cool Disney promotional witches hat from 1993 with the key art from the movie poster on it. It's so 90s and quintessential Halloween. Definitely one of my favorite pieces. Two other pieces come to mind. One being the Binx lava lamp released by Spencer's in 2017. Super unique. The other is the "I put a spell on you" perfume released by Spencer's in 2018. At the time, there weren't really any other Hocus Pocus beauty items out, and the bottle/packaging with the silhouette's of the Sandersons was so neat! It smells like a muskier version of Britney Spears Fantasy, but it does evoke a feeling of cursed candy on Halloween night.

Joe's extremely promotional hat from 1993!
Is there a particular product that has been released, that you wish you could get your hands on?

I slowed my collecting quite a bit in recent years as I don't love the cartoon art currently dominating all of the merchandise. However, I'd love to get my hands on some of the scrapped 2017 Villain Spelltacular merch. That was awesome art! I'm also in love with vintage promotional pieces. Id love to get the original cardboard display used in theaters to promote the film.

Is there a product you wish would be released?

I, like everyone else, would love a great prop replica of Book! It likely won't happen due to copyrights, but Book is such an iconic part of the movie, as well as Halloween in general for our generation. You think "spooky spell book" and you think of one with stitches and an eye.

You've been a fan for as long as you can remember, what would you say has been the best experience you've had around the films so far?

Hocus Pocus has been part of my Halloween experience for pretty much as long as I can remember. I can't tell you how many cozy fall memories I have of watching the movie while putting up Halloween decorations with friends and family, or how many times I've rang in November 1st as the credits rolled. One of the best experiences though has been discovering the fantastic Halloween community because of it. I think it was around 2017, I started posting about the newly released Spirit Halloween merch on Instagram and suddenly started chatting with a girl about the different versions of the vhs and dvd's we'd collected over the years. That girl was Ally (Hocus Pocus Collector) and we now have a great friendship. At that same time I also started talking with you, Wil. I'd never had a Halloween loving friend outside of the US, so it's been really cool to connect over the years and vicariously get to experience Halloween in the UK, as well as you getting to smell the Halloween air here. Without Hocus Pocus, I wouldn't have had any of that, so I'm very grateful.

If you could play any character from Hocus Pocus and its sequel, who would you be?

If I could play any Hocus Pocus character, I'd want to play Winifred. Mostly because I'd want to shoot lightening from my fingertips, but also because I'd want to swish my costume around during the I Put A Spell On You Scene.
Favourite line from the films?

My favorite line from Hocus Pocus is Dani yelling, "for your information, he's a little leaguer!!" It's become a joke between my best friend and myself. Years ago, we were watching the movie and she goes "what did she just say he was?"  "A little leaguer". She didn't know what a little leaguer was so I had to explain it. Haha!  A few years later, I showed up at her house on Halloween night dressed as a little leaguer.

How excited are you for Hocus Pocus 3?

I'm always excited for any Hocus Pocus related project, but I think more than anything, I'm curious to see what the plot of HP3 would be. So nervously excited I guess.

What would you like to see happen in the third film?

For the third film, I'd love for it to get the Jurassic World Dominion treatment where you have the original cast converge with the cast from the second film. Since we saw the redemption of Winifred in the last film, trading all of her power to be with her sisters, it would interesting to see them be called back to perhaps aid the others in battling against Hannah Waddingham's Mother Witch. But they struggle with the balance of good and evil.
Favourite Halloween candy?

I love a Reese's peanut butter pumpkin. The pumpkin shaped ones are just the best!

Favourite Halloween movie that isn't Hocus Pocus?

Trick'R'Treat. It's the perfect blend of horror, camp, and Halloween. Plus Sam is adorable.

When does spooky season start for you?

It's always Spooky Season in my heart, but physically, it typically starts for me in July. I seek out all of the new decor and start making my plans a reality.

One thing you like to do every Halloween?

Every Halloween, I obviously have to watch Hocus Pocus, but I always have to bake a batch of the Pillsbury Jack O Lantern and Ghost sugar cookies, and go to the pumpkin patch.

If you could create a spell to go into Booook, what would it be called and what would it do?

If I could create a spell to go into Boooook, it would be one to freeze time and everyone all around me so I could really just stop and take in the moment, all the little details of it. I'd call it the Freezus Momentus spell.
