The Reverends house is identical to the real Witch House in Salem.
Hannah Waddingham's Mother Witch can be heard singing "Come Little Children" when the sisters first enter the woods. “The kind Smiths have agreed to take thy sisters” could this be referring to Samuel Smith? Smith testified against Mary Easty who was ultimately hanged during the Salem Witch Trials. |
The Mother Witch has a similar outfit to Dani's Halloween costume.
The first scene after the opening in Old Salem is at the school, just like in the original Hocus Pocus. Decorations in the class room are by Beistle as part of their Vintage Halloween range. A stall at the Salem Scarefest is called "Dost Thou Comprehend Psychic Readings" a nod to what Winifred says in the original... although how would they know she said that? One of the stalls is called “Apple Plectic. Rotten to the core” a nod to the reverend saying “A rotten apple quickly infects its neighbour”. A real Salem street performer called Borah is seen in a small number of shots. Borah is extremely popular in Salem and does lots to help promote the city of Salem. |
When Becca and Izzy first ride through the Salem Scarefest, a billboard is seen which also features the Dennison House from the original Hocus Pocus in the background.
Inside the Magic Shop there is a framed quote: “Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it” this is a quote by Roald Dahl and is the very last line in The Minpins. |
The Sanderson Sisters and Me book by Gilbert features the same art as the 2020 Hulaween event for the New York Restoration Project. The artwork was created by Franz Szony and it was confirmed they’re trying to get Disney to officially release it. The book doesn't appear to be popular though as its been reduced from $19.99 to $10.99 and finally $8.
Hocus Pocus 2 writer Jen D'Angelo makes a brief appearance in the film and is the Mother who runs after the child that is scared the "witches are real" after Gilberts story. Abracadabra can be seen hanging in the shop, this is a nod to the alternative title for Hocus Pocus. When Becca and Izzy first talk to Mayor Traske, someone is dressed as Willy Wonka in the background. A large number of products in the magic shop were purchased from artists on Etsy. Products from Target, Johanna Parker, Suck UK, Grandin Road and Bethany Lowe Designs are also present and displayed around the shop. |
When the Sanderson Sisters first return, the ground splits like a pitch fork
Mary's mouth changes to the other side when Wini slaps her. This was actually due to the fact Kathy Najimy stated that she has trouble making her mouth go to the side, after years of doing it.
“Boys were in the cages” is a nod to Jay and Ice.
“Sunrise tricked us” is a nod to Max and Allison and the daylight savings scene.
The Walgreens scene is a nod to the presumed lost deleted scene from the original film.
M&M’s, Shark, Swiffer and Liquid Death drink can all be seen in Walgreens.
The cream they pick up in Walgreens is called Babyface.
The face mask is called Youth Retainer.
When the Sanderson Sisters look in the mirror and scream, Sarah says “the little box lied". In the sequel book, Sarah calls the phone “the talking box” a possible nod to the book.
Mary once again flys on a vacuum, this time it's two Sharks. Mary flies a Roomba in the sequel book too.
Just before Becca and Izzy arrive after lighting the black flame candle, Gilbert comes out whistling “I put a spell on you”
The curtain hanging in the magic shop looks similar to Hannah Waddingham's outfit with the large eye and red background.
When Gilbert says “Bunch of boys stole all of my candy” he's referring to Jay and Ice.
Doug Jones wears the original wig for Billy from the original Hocus Pocus.
The keychain attached to the keys for the Salem Trolley that Becca picks up, includes an actual red keychain that can be purchased from the real Salem Witch Museum.

The trolley also has real businesses that are in Salem advertised on the side including the Nightmare Gallery, Witch City Wicks and Better Than Fiction Salem walking tours.
At the Salem Scarefest the couple behind the Mayor are dressed like the master and his wife. The Mayors phone ringtone is Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor… aka the classic Dracula theme. An extra at the Salem Scarefest is dressed just like the skeleton singer from the town hall scene in the original Hocus Pocus. The host of the costume contest is Kathy Najimi’s real husband… another nod to the original Hocus Pocus, as the original film included her dog Ralph. |
Many of the costumes from the original Hocus Pocus also appear, including Supremes and Momdonna.
The Sanderson Sisters sing “ah say ento pi alpha mabi upendi” which is the same lines from I Put a Spell on You in the original Hocus Pocus.
The Master and his wife appear on the tv as Wini flies by the window. This was a way for Anne Fletcher to honour them both.
When we see Cassie at her house, she is wearing a tie dye shirt like Max’s.
Siri plays and Mary says “There is a small woman trapped in that box” which is a nod to the “Little woman” line in the original film.
Goose Creek candle is sitting next to Siri. Goose Creek released a range of eight Hocus Pocus candles in partnership with the film.
Mary calls Becca “Shish-ka-baby” when they’re trying to remember her name. Which is the same thing she calls Dani when they first return.
Wini pushes Sarah into the salt ring, just like she pushes her into the black river.
When Traske returns, Mary shouts that the car is a just a “Very small bus” this is a nod to the daylight savings scene from the first film.
Wini uses magic to sew Billy's mouth once again to silence him.
In the final scenes Mary and Sarah both say bye the same way as they do in the original, before turning to dust.
In the original Hocus Pocus, Winifred tells Max he’s a fool to give up his life for his sister… however she does the exact same thing for her own sisters.
